Office Staff

Mrs. Terrie Lorentz

I grew up in Simi Valley and lived here until I married five years ago to my awesome husband Greg.  At that time we moved to Thousand Oaks. I have one daughter, Allison, who is 27-years-old, married and living in South Carolina. I also have one stepdaughter, Elizabeth, who is 19-years-old. She is currently a student at Moorpark college and plans to transfer to a university in the fall.

I have worked with the Simi Valley Unified School District since 1996. I’ve been the office manager at Katherine Elementary School since June, 2000. I applied for a job with our district because I was a single parent and my daughter was just six-years-old. Working with the district gave me the opportunity to be home with her during holidays, vacations and summer.

Allison went to Crestview Elementary School, Sinaloa Middle School and Santa Susana High School.  She received a very good education that prepared her for college. She graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor's in Mathematics.

My position is challenging and fun at the same time. It is also interesting as I learn more and more each year about educating our future adults. My first priority each day here at work is the students. I enjoy working with them because I have the opportunity to be a positive influence for them. I believe that all kids need as many caring adults in their lives to achieve, be a success and to feel good about themselves. In addition they are a lot to fun to around. All teachers have former students come back to visit. Every once in awhile a former student will come back to say hi to me. It is such a good feeling to have them return to see me as I was not one of their teachers because then I know that I had impact on them.

Miss Debbie Burgess

When I was growing up, I wanted to be was a teacher because I loved children. I babysat all the time throughout my teenage years. As an adult, I was lucky enough to be able to adopt the apple of my eye, my daughter Amy. As she grew up from a baby to age five, I had licensed daycare in my home so I could be with her in her early formative years. After she started school, I worked at preschools and became a nanny as well in other children’s homes. So it seems I have been around children my entire life!

In 1994, I was hired at the Simi Valley Unified School District as a part-time special education classroom aide. Then needing more hours, I began working as a full-time office clerk. I enjoy my job because I can still be with children. Everyone on campus educates the students along with teachers, just in different ways. The students are my life away from home. I am glad that here at Katherine Elementary School the students come first, which is the way it should be. We have had great principals who have enforced that daily. All of the staff here work with parents to become a continuous family for our students and I am happy to be a part of such a caring school. Go Crocs!
